Privacy policy, Strike Wedge Launch
Last updated: 25 September 2026
This policy covers the Strike Wedge Launch iPhone app. It does not cover the strikewedge.com online store, which has its own policy.
Strike Wedge Pty Ltd (ABN 72 682 163 097), Australia, is responsible for the app. Contact: info@strikewedge.com
The short version
The app films and measures golf shots on your phone. The video it records stays on your phone. It never leaves unless you put a clip on a leaderboard yourself.
Four things can leave your phone, and this page explains each one: your leaderboard entries, the clip you can choose to put on a board, the short profile you give the app, and shot numbers that help us improve the measurement. One switch in Settings, Privacy, turns the profile and the shot numbers off together, and you can delete all of it from inside the app at any time.
We do not sell data, we do not run advertising, we do not track you across other apps or websites, and there is no third party software in the app. Everything below goes through Apple's iCloud (CloudKit) and Apple's App Store, and nowhere else.
What stays on your phone
All of the following is stored only on your iPhone and is never sent to us:
- The video clips the app records of your shots.
- Your shot history: ball speed, launch angle, carry and the other measurements, with the clips they belong to.
- Your settings, units and metric preferences.
- Your personal bests and your Strike Wedge handicap.
- Diagnostic logs the app writes to help investigate measurement problems. They hold camera and detection numbers, never your name or your footage, stay on the phone and are removed when you delete the app.
- A few seconds of video after the last shot of a Daily Challenge, 3 Hole Challenge, Best of Three, Flop Off or private challenge round, so your recap can show the moment. It is deleted after seven days and leaves the phone only if you put the recap on a board (see Clips on the board).
If you export or share a clip, you choose where it goes using the standard iOS share sheet. That is your action, and the file goes wherever you send it. We do not receive a copy.
If you turn on "Save every clip", the app writes clips to your photo library. That is on your device and under your control.
Your iCloud identity
The app uses the iCloud account already signed in on your phone. There is no sign up, no password and no email address. Apple gives the app an opaque code that is unique to you within this app and meaningless outside it. Apple does not give us your Apple ID, your name, your email address or any way to contact you.
That code is what ties your leaderboard entries, your profile and your shot data together, and it is what lets you delete all of them in one go. Your leaderboard entries are shown to other players; your profile and your shot data are never shown to anyone, and we are the only ones who read them.
Leaderboards
Leaderboards are optional. Nothing about you is stored anywhere off your phone until you claim a leaderboard name and enter a game. When you do, the app stores in a database that other players of the app can read:
- The username you choose. Other players see it. Choose accordingly.
- Your scores in the games that have boards: the Daily Challenge (your three shot distances, the day's target and your average miss), the 3 Hole Challenge (your three shot distances, the day's three targets and your average miss), Best of Three, the Daily Flop Off, Leapfrog, and any hole in one, which goes on a standing honours list.
- The date and time you submitted each score.
- Your opaque iCloud code, so nobody can enter twice in one day and nobody else can use your name.
Each daily game (the Daily Challenge, the 3 Hole Challenge, Best of Three and the Daily Flop Off) also has a season table, the Order of Merit. When a day's board closes, the app on one player's phone records that day's season result: the usernames and points of the top 30% of that day's players (at least one), each with the player's opaque iCloud code, and how many players entered.
Private challenges
Anyone with a subscription can create a private challenge and invite people with a link, a QR code or a six character code. Joining is free. Everyone who has the code can see the challenge title, the creator's username, the usernames of the players who have joined and their scores. The creator can remove any player. Private challenges disappear from the app 30 days after they end.
Clips on the board
If you finish in the top three of a board, the app can put your recap clip on that board for other players to watch. The recap is a short video of your three shots followed by a few seconds of you after the last one. It shows you.
This is opt in. The first time it applies the app asks you. If you say yes, the app puts your clip up automatically every time you finish in the top three from then on, and tells you it has. You can turn that off in Settings, Privacy, "Share my leader clips". Turning it off stops new clips going up. Clips already on a board come down when you delete your data.
Clips on the public boards can be watched by anyone using the app. Clips in a private challenge can be watched by anyone who has that challenge's code. The recap's closing card shows the day's board, so the names of other players appear in your clip and yours can appear in theirs.
Players who tell the app they are under 18 are never offered this, and their clips never go up. A player who has not given an age confirms they are 18 or over before their first clip goes up.
Your profile
Nothing about you is asked until you first enter the games. Then one card asks for your leaderboard name, your age band and your golf handicap. You can answer "None" for the handicap and "Prefer not to say" for your age. Which hand you play with is set on the Range's setup card, because it sets up the camera view, and where you practise is optional in Settings.
The profile is stored against your opaque iCloud code, together with your units and the region your phone is set to. We use it to understand how players of different standards strike the ball and to build the Strike Wedge handicap. It is never shown to other players. You can change your handicap, and clear the two optional answers, in Settings, Your profile; the same switch that controls the shot data below stops the profile being sent.
Shot data
Every shot the app measures, and every swing it tried and failed to read, can send us a set of numbers: the measurements, how well the ball was detected, the light the phone was working in, which screen or game the shot was hit on, when it was hit and which session it belonged to, the phone model and the app version. No video, no image, no audio, no name and no location are included. A guest's run in the Wedge Test is marked as a guest's, without their name; the handicap they told the app is included.
We use this to find where the measurement struggles, for example in poor light or on particular phones, and to fix it. It is stored against your opaque iCloud code, is never shown to other players, and we are the only ones who read it.
This is on by default, because it is how the app gets better for everyone. You can turn it off in Settings, Privacy, "Share shot data". Turning it off stops new uploads and deletes anything waiting to upload.
Hiding and reporting other players
Long press any leaderboard row to hide that player from every board; hiding is local to your phone and instant, and Settings, Privacy, "Hidden players" is the way back. The same menu reports a name, a clip or a challenge title, which opens an email to us with the details. We remove content that breaks our rules.
Deleting your data
Open the app, go to Settings, then Your data, then "Delete my data".
That removes everything stored for your iCloud code: your leaderboard name (which anyone can then claim), every score you have submitted, every clip you have put on a board, your private challenge entries and any challenges you created, your profile and your anonymous shot data. It cannot be undone, and it is available to everyone, in every country, without contacting us first.
One thing it cannot reach: a season result for a day you finished in the top 30% of a daily game is written by whichever player's phone settled that day, and it keeps the username you had that day until the season ends.
Deleting your data does not touch your shots, clips or settings on the phone, because those were never off your phone. To remove those, delete the app.
Subscription
Full access costs $99.00 AUD per year after a seven day free trial, and renews automatically until cancelled. Strike Wedge owners receive a code for a free first year instead; a code is redeemed through Apple's own sheet, and the subscription then renews at $99.00 AUD a year unless cancelled.
Apple handles the purchase. We never see your payment details, your card or your billing address. The app asks Apple whether your subscription is currently active and gets back a yes or a no. That check happens on your device and works without a network connection.
Manage or cancel your subscription in the iOS Settings app under your Apple Account. Cancelling through Apple is the only way to stop the renewal; we cannot do it for you.
Permissions the app asks for
- Camera. Required. It films your shot at 240 frames a second so the app can measure it. Footage stays on your phone.
- Microphone. Used while the launch monitor is armed to hear the sound of the strike, which times each shot precisely. The sound is analysed in memory on your phone and is never saved, never uploaded and never part of any clip. If you decline, the app still measures shots. The switch is in Settings, Privacy, "Strike microphone".
- Photo library, add only. Asked for only when you turn on "Save every clip". The app cannot read your existing photos; iOS only grants it permission to add.
- Notifications. Optional, for the Daily Challenge reminder, and only if you turn it on.
You can change any of these in the iOS Settings app. Denying the camera stops the app measuring shots, because that is the feature.
Children
The app is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect anything from them. Players who tell the app they are under 18 cannot put clips on a board.
Changes to this policy
If we change what the app collects, we will update this page and the date at the top. Material changes will be noted in the app's release notes.
