Privacy policy, Strike Wedge Launch

This policy covers the Strike Wedge Launch iPhone app. It does not cover the strikewedge.com online store, which has its own policy.

The short version

The app measures golf shots on your phone. The video it records and the results it calculates stay on your device. Nothing is uploaded unless you choose to share it.

The one exception is the Daily Challenge leaderboard. If you enter it, your chosen name and your scores are stored so other players can see the board. That is the only feature that sends anything off your device, and you can delete all of it from within the app.

We do not use analytics. We do not track you. There are no advertising services in the app, and no third party software development kits of any kind.

What stays on your device

All of the following is stored only on your iPhone and is never sent to us:

  • The video clips the app records of your shots.
  • Your shot history, including ball speed, launch angle, carry and the other measurements.
  • Your settings, units, handedness and metric preferences.
  • Your personal bests in the games.
  • Diagnostic logs the app writes to help investigate measurement problems.

Ball detection and all measurement run on the phone itself. No video or image ever leaves your device as part of normal use.

If you export or share a clip, you choose where it goes using the standard iOS share sheet. That is your action, and the file goes wherever you send it. We do not receive a copy.

If you turn on "Save every clip", the app writes clips to your photo library. That is on your device and under your control.

The Daily Challenge leaderboard

The leaderboard is optional. If you never submit a score, nothing about you is stored anywhere off your device.

If you do submit, the app uses Apple's iCloud (CloudKit) to store, in a database other players of the app can read:

  • The username you choose.
  • Your score for that day, which is your average miss distance.
  • Your three individual shot distances for that day.
  • The target distance for that day.
  • The date, and the time you submitted.
  • An identifier Apple gives us for your iCloud account.

That identifier deserves an explanation. Apple does not give us your Apple ID, your name, your email address, or any way to contact you. It gives the app an opaque code that is unique to you within this app and meaningless outside it. We use it for exactly two things: to stop the same person entering twice in one day, and to make sure only you can use the username you claimed.

Your username is visible to other players. Choose accordingly. Everything else in that list is either shown on the board or used to order it.

This data sits in Apple's iCloud infrastructure, governed by Apple's own privacy terms. We do not copy it anywhere else, and we do not combine it with anything.

Deleting your leaderboard data

Open the app, go to the You tab, and choose "Delete leaderboard profile".

That removes your username, releases it so anyone can claim it, and deletes every score you have submitted. It cannot be undone. It is available to everyone, in every country, without contacting us first.

Deleting your leaderboard profile does not touch your shots, clips or settings, because those were never off your phone. To remove those, delete the app.

Subscription

Full access costs $99.00 AUD per year and renews automatically until cancelled.

Apple handles the purchase. We never see your payment details, your card, or your billing address. The app asks Apple whether your subscription is currently active and gets back a yes or a no. That check happens on your device and works without a network connection.

Manage or cancel your subscription in the iOS Settings app under your Apple Account. Cancelling through Apple is the only way to stop the renewal; we cannot do it for you.

Permissions the app asks for

  • Camera. Required. It records your swing at 240 frames per second so the app can measure the shot. Processing happens on your device.
  • Microphone. Optional, and used only when you record a voice-over on a clip in the player. The capture screen never uses the microphone.
  • Photo library, add only. Used to save clips to your camera roll when you ask. The app cannot read your existing photos; iOS only grants it permission to add.

You can change any of these in the iOS Settings app. Denying the camera stops the app measuring shots, because that is the feature.

Children

The app is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect anything from them. The only information that can be submitted at all is a username and golf scores.

Changes to this policy

If we change what the app collects, we will update this page and the date at the top. Material changes will be noted in the app's release notes.
